Super Aguri back in F1?

Aguri Suzuki has hinted at a possible return to Formula 1 after hearing the announcement of budget caps imposed by the FIA starting in 2010.

The Japanese team joined Formula 1 as the second Honda team in 2006 and then withdrew a year ago due to financial reasons.

Entry into Formula 1 three years earlier with Japanese driver Takuma Sato, then Anthony Davidson, the team only raced four times in 2008, leaving both drivers without a seat.

The former boss, Aguri Suzuki, did not hide his interest in a return to the premier category.

« If it’s materially possible, I would like to do it, » he stated.

The best year for the team was in 2007, with a tenth and eleventh position on the starting grid for the Australian Grand Prix, followed by an eighth place, with its point, in Spain. A spectacular Canadian race, where Takuma Sato passed Fernando Alonso and his McLaren, to seize the sixth position and its three additional points, placing the team in ninth place in the constructors’ championship ahead of the Spyker team.

With the FIA’s desire to increase the number of cars to 26, thus 13 teams for next season, comments from Aguri Suzuki add a name to the list of potential new teams, joining USGPE, Lola, iSport, and Prodrive among the candidates for 2010.
