Red Bull wants to commit long-term with Vettel

The Red Bull team is convinced they can secure Sebastian Vettel’s services for the long term, revealed Christian Horner, the team principal.

The 21-year-old German, the only race winner alongside Jenson Button this year, is under contract until the end of 2010 with the Austrian team, leaving the door open to rumors.

Christian Horner told the newspaper Sport Bild: « We see our future with Sebastian. We want to strengthen and expand our team around him. »

BMW-Sauber, for which he competed in his first Grand Prix, and McLaren Mercedes have clearly expressed their interest in Sebastian Vettel. As for Bernie Ecclestone, he mentioned that he would really like to see his favorite driver behind the wheel of a Ferrari!

However, Horner clarifies: « Sebastian is indeed with us. If we give him a car with which he can fight for victory, there is no reason for him to change teams. »

As a reminder, Sebastian Vettel, who began his career in mid-2007, is the only driver currently without a manager. He negotiates – with the help of his father – directly with the teams, which attracts the interest of the major managers in the field, notably Willi Weber, the famous manager of Michael Schumacher.
