Nico Rosberg considers his options for 2010

After demonstrating loyalty to Frank Williams more than once in his 3-year career, German driver Nico Rosberg admitted he is currently evaluating his options for the next season. With his contract with Williams ending at the end of the year, the former GP2 champion has made it clear that he is aiming for a winning car for next year.

For Rosberg, the situation is clear: if Williams fails to improve the car to fight for victories in the second half of the season, Rosberg will leave Grove at the end of the year. The German revealed earlier in the year that only the possibility of a fresh start due to the new regulations convinced him to stay with Williams in 2009.

However, with only 4.5 points scored in the first 5 races, the future with Williams seems to darken, despite the good relationships he maintains within the team.

« I’m trying to visualize in my head the possibilities I have for next year. » confirmed the son of the 1982 world champion Keke Rosberg.

« It would be nice to have one now [a race car capable of fighting for the victory]. But in F1 there are only two teams with winning cars. So you just have to be patient. If you deserve it, sooner or later you will get this chance, and next year will be an important step in my career. I would like to find something that is a good solution and for the long term. It’s important to have that. » added the 23-year-old driver.

In the past, Rosberg allegedly refused a great opportunity to join McLaren Mercedes shortly after Fernando Alonso decided to leave the Woking team at the end of the 2007 season. Although he was very interested in this transfer, Rosberg decided to stay with Williams.

McLaren still seems to be the best option for Rosberg in 2010 since Mercedes has indicated that they are currently looking for a fellow German driver to support Lewis Hamilton. Furthermore, the fact that Heikki Kovalainen’s contract expires at the end of this season is another strong argument for this potential transfer.
