The meeting that took place today, Friday, in London between the FIA and FOTA did not conclude with a mutual agreement between the two parties, according to Max Mosley.
The FIA has refused any compromise on its plans to introduce a budget cap, offering teams more freedom in the rules for the next season.
As a reminder, F1 teams were united in protesting against the FIA’s idea of proposing a two-tier regulation: either teams adhere to a capped budget of 40 million pounds and gain more technical freedom; or teams spend as much as they wish but must comply with a number of restrictions on engines, gearboxes, aerodynamics, etc.
« The teams left the meeting to see if they could come back with something better than the capped budget. » said Mosley. « We are ready to listen to what they have to say to us. »
He added that the meeting was friendly, but he added that it is obvious that Ferrari has taken the matter to a French court to issue a warning against our actions and prevent us from doing what we want.
Mosley stated that he had not accepted the slightest compromise on his plans, and he doubts that Ferrari could leave the sport. It seems Ferrari intends, with this legal action, to block the implementation of the new regulations for 2010.
At the end of this meeting, F1 is not any further along, with the deadline for registration for the next championship, which must be completed by the teams before May 29, still in sight.
