Jarno Trulli made an emotional visit this week to the Abruzzo region in Italy to continue helping people affected by last month’s earthquake.
A native of Abruzzo, having been born and raised in Pescara, Trulli collects money for earthquake victims through his association ‘Abruzzo nel Cuore’ (Abruzzo in the Heart).
Wednesday, Trulli visited the small village of Onna, which lost 39 of its 250 inhabitants and where the magnitude was recorded at 6.8 on the Richter scale. He met with survivors on site who are currently living in tents next to the ruins of their homes.
The Toyota driver then moved to L’Aquila and visited a camp where 270 people are also living in tents, and where Trulli was able to comfort the residents by offering F1 memorabilia, signing autographs, and posing for photos with the children of the camp.
“I was shocked to see the devastation caused, so many buildings have been destroyed and the effect on people’s lives is truly terrible,” shared the Italian driver. “I am doing my best to help as much as I can and everyone in Formula 1 has been understanding. Fortunately, we can raise a lot of money to help with the reconstruction and so that the residents of Abruzzo can return to a normal situation soon. They are in our hearts.”
The association has already raised more than 23,000 euros, while some drivers have donated certain Formula 1 items that will be auctioned off to raise additional funds.
