Brawn is in a position to win the world championship, according to Flavio Briatore, the director of Renault. This is the same Briatore who earlier in the year had criticized Brawn’s diffusers and described the drivers as lacking credibility to win the crown.
When asked by the German newspaper Die Welt if Brawn GP and Jenson Button, who respectively have a lead of 29.5 and 18 points after 5 races, can be caught up, Briatore responds no.
« In Formula 1, almost anything is possible, but I think it will be difficult for another team to win the title. »
« They are well-funded and they can further develop their car without any problem, and for the competition, it’s an issue », added the Italian.
Although the Monaco circuit this weekend is atypical, Ross Brawn hopes for another strong performance from his team in the streets of the principality.
« The car is very good mechanically and will take advantage of the low speed on the circuit, » noted Brawn, also mentioning that his drivers, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, have never won in Monaco, despite a few podium finishes.
