Wurz at the head of a new team?

The former driver Alexander Wurz is said to be appointed head of the new Superfund Team, which could potentially enter F1 next season.

The Austrian, who last raced for Williams in 2007, has been revealed as the team’s principal manager, owned and funded by the investment company Superfund and powered by Cosworth.

With all the current teams, plus a selection of rookies who have already submitted their registration for 2010, Autosport revealed that Superfund, led by Austrian Christian Baha, has also submitted its entry to the FIA.

The team becomes the fifth, after USF1, Campos, Lola, and Prodrive, to apply for next year, and it is estimated that the planning of this project within the team is already at an advanced stage.

It was also announced that the team is already in contact with senior Formula 1 personnel, although no information has been provided on the names of the drivers.

With fifteen teams now having submitted their entries and only thirteen spots available in the paddocks, 26 cars will be on the starting grid next year, as the FIA indeed wanted.

A selection of the best candidates, deemed capable of completing the 2010 season, will take place next Friday, June 12.
