Mercedes close to placing its star on Brawn GP

According to some German media, the company Mercedes is very interested in placing its star brand on the victorious Brawn GP cars, powered by Stuttgart’s V8 engines. Although these talks have been ongoing for a few weeks, it now seems that the agreement is close to becoming a reality in the coming weeks.

« We wouldn’t be doing our job well if we weren’t talking about it » declared Norbert Haug to the newspaper Bild am Sonntag last weekend.

Last month, the same Norberg Haug admitted that branding on the Brawn GP was a possibility, nevertheless insisting that he did not want people to think that the engine manufacturer was distancing itself from McLaren.

The Brawn GP – Mercedes contract, signed only a few weeks before the start of the season, was intended to be a classic supplier-customer relationship between two companies, not requiring the client to display the name of its engine. However, after seeing Button and his Brawn GP cross the finish line as winners 5 times in 6 races, placing the Mercedes star on the cars would prove to be very profitable for the German manufacturer.

Mercedes also highlighted that Button, in Monaco, had won a third consecutive race with the same engine, an extraordinary performance for the German engine!

Moreover, the latest rumors that McLaren might soon abandon the 2009 season in favor of the 2010 campaign make the shifts in Mercedes’ interests all the more likely. An announcement could be made shortly after the Turkish Grand Prix this weekend.
