Official: AlphaTauri confirms Tsunoda and Ricciardo for 2024

The location was not chosen randomly. AlphaTauri announced in Japan, the land of Honda and Yuki Tsunoda, that the young driver will still be under contract with the Italian team in 2024. He will be entering his fourth season in Formula 1 and will have a new teammate.

(I) I am delighted to announce that I will be staying with Scuderia AlphaTauri for the 2024 Formula 1 season. I am excited to continue fighting and working with the team and Daniel. Of course, I will work as hard as possible for the remainder of the season and beyond, in order to progress as a driver. I am grateful to Red Bull and Honda, who continue to support me and believe in me, and I am very happy and grateful to continue this partnership, assures Yuki Tsunoda.

The second seat was being contested between Daniel Ricciardo, who returned to competition during the Hungarian Grand Prix, and Liam Lawson, his replacement since Zandvoort and the injury of the Australian. Finally, the Red Bull team has chosen experience and decided to keep the Honey Badger.

For the Australian, this position on the grid next year is an opportunity to showcase himself and erase his underperformance at McLaren in 2021 and 2022, as he plans to return to Red Bull in 2025.

« I am absolutely delighted to be driving with Yuki again next year and to continue the adventure with Scuderia AlphaTauri. It is an exciting time for the team because of the progress we have already made and the plans for the future. We are building, and it is a great feeling. There is a lot of work to be done, but we are heading in the right direction. Looking forward to 2024 », says Daniel Ricciardo.

Despite his impressive performances since the Dutch Grand Prix, Liam Lawson has not been retained as a regular driver. He will only be a reserve driver. « As for Liam, who has impressed everyone in his races so far, he will truly help the team in his development role as a third driver, and I am confident that he will soon have a future in Formula 1 », justifies Franz Tost, the director of AlphaTauri.
