Friday: BMW remains somewhat in the dark…

In the absence of results, BMW demonstrates perfect consistency. Both drivers secure exactly the same positions during the initial practice sessions in Germany. 11th for Nick Heidfeld and 14th for Robert Kubica. These results are not particularly exciting, but the fact is that we’ve grown accustomed to seeing the cars in these positions.

The trials were conducted with the aim of collecting as much data as possible. The weather conditions do not help the German team at all, which is waiting to see its performance tomorrow.

Nick Heidfeld – 11th and 11th:

« For me, the results of the second session are a bit difficult to understand. Once the track was dry, I was very happy with the performance. I encountered traffic on what ultimately turned out to be my best lap and I lost about four-tenths behind a Ferrari driver. As a result, the end of the session was run on another set of new tires. But then I wasn’t faster than on my blocked lap at the beginning of the session. It’s really strange and needs to be analyzed. »

Robert Kubica – 14th summer 14th

« It was a very tough Friday. The weather conditions were far from ideal. We had a bit of rain in both sessions and it was very cold throughout the day. With these weather conditions, it is difficult to maintain the temperature of the tires. It is particularly difficult for the hard ones. We need to improve the balance of the car for tomorrow. We will now analyze the data and see what we need to change for tomorrow. »

Willy Rampf – Director of Engineering:

« With all the new parts on the car, it was important to carry out our program as planned. We now need to analyze and compare the collected data. The initial analysis shows some progress regarding the level of downforce. But we need to pair that with an improvement in the car’s balance. For Saturday, we need to set up as effectively as possible. »
