Saturday: Red Bull continues its march forward

After a thrilling qualifying session, the Red Bull drivers once again delivered strong performances. Sebastian Vettel finished in second place, while his teammate Mark Webber came in third. This bodes well against their direct competitors, Brawn GP, whose drivers will start from 8th and 13th place on Sunday.

Red Bull’s performances demonstrate the team’s ability to continue progressing and putting pressure on leader Brawn GP’s shoulders; it is certainly a turning point unfolding for the championship.

Sebastian Vettel – 10th and 2nd:

« It was good today. I had a rather difficult start over the weekend, and I struggled with the car’s balance during Friday’s practice. But we made a good step forward, and it’s looking good for the race. However, the challenge, regardless if you’re first, second, or third, is the existing threat of the car with the KERS that is behind us. Today’s qualifying was a bit chaotic, first with yellow flags and then getting caught in traffic on my second timed lap, which wasn’t ideal. I was confident during the final qualifying, and we achieved a good result. We’ll see tomorrow, but it seems like a good race for us. »

Mark Webber – 9th and 3rd :

Not a great session in Q3 for me, as I made a mistake in turn 2. Sebastian [Vettel] did a clean lap and should have a good race tomorrow. Kudos to Fernando [Alonso] too, it’s a good result for Renault. Rubens [Barrichello] couldn’t make it into Q3, so Sebastian and I are in a good position to pick up some good points. The cars with KERS will come back at us very quickly at the start.

Christian Horner – Team Manager:

« First of all, it’s good to hear that Felipe Massa is conscious and the early signs seem positive. Our two drivers did a very good team job today – second and third is a good starting position for the Grand Prix. The cars with KERS will be an important factor to consider tomorrow, especially Lewis Hamilton. Congratulations to Renault for their top 3 on the grid. Hopefully, we can turn our grid position into big points tomorrow. »
