Review: McLaren Returns to Victory in Hungary!

This is Lewis Hamilton’s first victory during the 2009 season. The 2009 season hadn’t started well for all the big teams. But after 10 Grand Prix races, McLaren, Ferrari, and Renault are starting to gain an edge over the leaders. The best proof is this Hungarian Grand Prix: Victorious, Lewis Hamilton didn’t give any chance to his opponents since Fernando Alonso’s retirement. The other Silver Arrow is ranked 5th.

A very good overall result that is highlighted by the leaders. Hamilton becomes the 4th driver to win a race this year, behind the three championship leaders. The British driver climbs back to 8th place in the driver standings, less than 7 points from 5th place. The second half of the season promises to be spectacular.

Lewis Hamilton – 1st:

« It’s an incredible feeling to be back at the highest level after all these struggles. This is one of my best races. I never gave up, and neither did the team. I am so proud of all the guys. We did not expect to win today. We did not even think we would keep up the pace, but the car was perfect to drive, I felt it fantastically during the race. »

« Finally, my thoughts are with Felipe today. Despite our joy, it is important to remember that there is a guy lying in a hospital bed tonight, and I think I speak for everyone when I say that we all had Felipe in our hearts today and we wish him a speedy recovery. »

Heikki Kovalainen – 5th:

« It was a great race for the whole team and especially for Lewis [Hamilton]. Hopefully next time it will be me! This victory proves how much the team has improved the performance of our car over the past few months: it is the result of every man and woman in this team and this victory must be particularly satisfying. Our thoughts go to Felipe. I want to wish him all the best and hope he returns to Formula 1 soon »

Martin Whitmarsh – Team Manager:

« Yes, 2009 was a very difficult year for us, but no one in Woking, Brixworth, or Stuttgart gave up. We all came together and kept our spirits to work better together. I am extremely proud of each of them. And today, Lewis, who never stopped pushing himself all year, was simply magnificent: there is no other word.
