The Scuderia Ferrari will long remember the Hungarian weekend of July 26, 2009; the images of Felipe Massa’s Ferrari going straight into a pile of tires will remain in everyone’s memory. The Brazilian driver, with a skull fracture, remains in the hospital under an artificial coma. The Ferrari team was determined to achieve a good result in honor of the reigning vice world champion.
Kimi Räikkönen, the sole representative of the prancing horse, finishes the Hungarian Grand Prix in a very impressive second place. Thanks to the KERS and a fantastic start, Räikkönen kept up with the best before overtaking Mark Webber in the pits. The Finnish driver’s second place confirms Ferrari’s resurgence and proves that they will be a force to reckon with in the upcoming races.
Kimi Räikkönen – 2nd:
« Today’s result is very important for the team on this difficult weekend, because of what happened to Felipe yesterday. I am happy with my second place, even though it is not completely satisfying since I intended to win. On this type of circuit, we are certainly closer to the best than on other circuits, and today, honestly, we were even closer. I had a good start, coming out in 4th place after the first corners. We knew it was essential to gain places at the start in order to fight for the podium later. After the first pit stop, we started having problems with the right exhaust, and so, at the second refueling, we had a different procedure than usual. I lost a bit of time, but I still had an advantage over Webber so I could manage the situation. Today, the car wasn’t bad, but not fast enough to aim for the victory »
Stefano Domenicali – Team Manager :
« We dedicate this result to Felipe: right now, all our thoughts are with him and his family, and I believe this sentiment holds true for those close to him and for fans around the world. Kimi had a great race and the team worked impeccably, focusing on the race despite yesterday’s accident. We achieved the best result we were capable of. Please, let me send our best wishes to Felipe on behalf of the entire Ferrari team.
