Summary: Brawn GP sinks further in Hungary

The weekend in Hungary caused many concerns for the championship team leader. First with a modest qualification for Barrichello and Button, then a race without shining. A gloomy weekend, with only 2 points brought home for Brawn GP. Not to mention, of course, the injury caused to Felipe Massa.

Jenson Button remains the leader of the championship with a comfortable lead, but the Red Bulls and Mark Webber are gradually coming back. The latter is taking advantage of the troubles of his German teammate, Sebastian Vettel.

Jenson Button – 7th:

We feel positive about what we achieved today, but unfortunately, the result did not match our expectations. I was fully fueled after the qualifications, and our plan was to make a good start, stay with the leading cars, and then delay the pit stop as much as possible. My rear tires massively grained in the first laps, which eliminated any chance of keeping up with the leading pack. We don’t know what the problem was. I no longer have the same feeling with the car, but we will work hard to identify the issues before Valencia. It’s disappointing because we had high hopes for this race, but we leave Hungary with 2 points.

Rubens Barrichello – 10th:

There were some good moments but my race was really compromised from the start, which is a shame because the potential was there. I had contact from another car, and it’s always difficult to make progress from there. It was a very tough weekend to forget quickly. We know we have a lot of work ahead of us to understand what’s affecting our performance.

Ross Brawn – Team Manager:

« Hungary was a very complicated weekend for the entire team. After a positive start with a good understanding of the tires on Friday, they proved to be our main concern during today’s race. The drivers tried different strategies with tire choices, but we were unable to prevent tire degradation. We have four weeks before the next race, and we will work very hard to identify the cause of our recent problems and make the necessary improvements to return to our early-season level. Finally, congratulations to Mercedes-Benz for a well-deserved victory today. »
