Toyota and Mercedes denied today the rumors that they might follow BMW’s footsteps and withdraw from F1.
With cost reduction, we will continue our commitment to Formula 1, stated a Toyota press officer to the German newspaper SID. This has been communicated to us from Japan.
Practically at the same time, a spokesperson for Mercedes Benz announced, “We regret BMW’s withdrawal from Formula 1. The decision has no influence on our F1 commitment.”
However, the other manufacturer often linked to withdrawal rumors, Renault, has not yet made any comment.
It was said at the end of last weekend, during the Hungarian Grand Prix, that the signing of new Concorde agreements was imminent. If this is confirmed, all signatories of this treaty commit to staying in Formula 1 until 2012.
