Bernie Ecclestone suggested to the Swiss magazine Motorsport Aktuell that the Spa Francorchamps circuit might not take place to make way for another circuit on the calendar as early as next year.
In the same interview, the chief executive of Formula 1 suggested that the Canadian Grand Prix could return to the 2010 calendar. Thus, the Spa Francorchamps circuit and the Nurburgring could alternate each year.
However, the boss of Spa Francorchamps, André Maes, noted in the Belgian newspaper La Libre Belgique that the circuit has a contract until 2012 to organize a Grand Prix every year.
Discussions are underway between the leaders of Spa Francorchamps and the Formula 1 chief financial officer. No decision has been made at the moment.
