The FIA has reopened the selection process for the last spot in the 2010 Formula 1 World Championship. BMW has not signed the Concorde Agreements, leaving a spot to be filled on the 2010 grid.
The newspaper Autosport understands that yesterday, FIA president Max Mosley wrote to the seven teams on the reserve list, indicating that a spot was indeed available. Peter Sauber, who is still working with BMW to find a rescue plan for the team and holds a 20% stake in it, has yet to gather enough funds to sign the new Concorde Agreements.
Consequently, although Peter Sauber is making progress in establishing a budget to save the Formula 1 team, the FIA invites BMW-Sauber to compete on the same level as the seven other teams vying for the last spot on the 2010 grid.
The Epsilon Euskadi team and David Richard’s Prodrive team seem to be the best-positioned teams at the moment. Epsilon team boss Joan Villadelprat announced to Autosport last week: « We are still working on the project at a very slow pace, because obviously, we don’t have the security of being on the grid next year. »
« What we can say is that there is a real excitement around us, and that motivates us to go further and reach our goal, » says the head of Epsilon Euskadi.
