Since the beginning of the weekend, the Toyotas have shown a very competitive level, comparable to that of the start of the season. The Spa Francorchamps circuit, with its high pace and long fast corners, seems to particularly suit the TF109.
Already the pole-sitter on the Ardennes track in 2004, Jarno Trulli made headlines again by securing an excellent second fastest time behind the surprising Fisichella. He clearly has a chance for victory on Sunday if the Japanese team’s race pace remains at this level. Timo Glock also excelled this Saturday, qualifying in 7th position.
The team’s goal is to achieve a result in the race, specifically to try to reclaim the 3rd place in the constructors’ championship and secretly to finally secure that first victory in Formula 1!
Jarno Trulli – 2nd and 2nd:
I’m very happy to be on the front line again. We have always known that when everything runs smoothly we have a very competitive car, and all weekend we were extremely strong. In qualifying, I was always in the top two, even in the first part, I did that quite easily. I did a very fast lap in Q3 and the second place gives us a great chance for tomorrow. We raised the level of support a bit yesterday and spent most of the time adjusting the car’s balance. I spent most of the weekend driving with fuel onboard so I’m very happy with how things are shaping up. I have to thank the team who worked really hard to improve and achieve a result like this, I dedicate it to all my mechanics.
Timo Glock – 5th and 7th:
«It was a good result for the whole team today and it’s nice to be back fighting at the front again. My lap was quite good and I’m happy with that, we’ve worked hard to improve our qualifying pace and we’re getting our reward today. The team has brought a new aero package for this race and it seems to be working well. We had good race pace in Hungary and Valencia so I am optimistic for tomorrow. I hope to finish in the top 5, it won’t be easy but I’m looking forward to the challenge. »
Pascal Vasselon – chassis manager:
« It has been a good weekend for us so far and we are happy to be back at the front. We have seen since the beginning of the weekend that both of our cars are fast and consistent in all conditions and it’s a good feeling. For the first time in three races, we have qualified where our pace puts us so the weekend is promising and we are ready for an exciting Sunday. Congratulations to our drivers who have done an impressive job this weekend, and I would also like to thank the people at the factory, as well as those at the circuit. Now our goal is clear, to convert this strong qualifying into a result tomorrow. »
