Summary: Force India’s “dream” has come true!

Force India dreamed it, Force India did it! First points and first podium for Giancarlo Fisichella at the wheel of the modest Force India. After securing a pole position, the Italian made a strong impression against all the other drivers. Only Kimi Räikkönen was able to overtake the Italian. Adrian Sutil, on the other hand, finished in a distant 12th place.

Force India now leads the Toro Rosso team in the constructors’ standings with a total of 8 points. Giancarlo Fisichella will certainly want to repeat such a performance, but will he do it with Force India, or with Ferrari?

Adrian Sutil – 12th:

It was a great weekend for the team and especially for Giancarlo. He had a great race today, second place, it’s a huge achievement for everyone. We’ve clearly made a big step, and we’ve shown that anything is possible. Personally, I’m disappointed because I was hit at the first corner, and my race was ruined. It’s a bit disappointing because we had the speed. I hope I can achieve a result similar to Giancarlo’s at Monza.

Giancarlo Fisichella – 2nd:

It’s a great day and a fabulous result today. Before coming to Spa, if you had asked the whole team if we would have been happy to finish eighth, we would have immediately signed up with joy. But finishing second, it’s a dream, it’s perfect. Actually, being honest, I was thinking about first place, so there’s a hint of disappointment. Kimi quickly passed me after the safety car withdrew, but I was faster than him, while knowing it was impossible to overtake with the KERS. In any case, it’s great for the championship and for the races to come. A big thank you to everyone.

Dr Vijay Mallya – Chairman and CEO:

What a result! I am so proud of this race which will certainly end up in all the history books as the first points scored by India in the Formula 1 World Championship. It has been a fantastic Saturday, a fantastic race, and to achieve our first podium and our first points is simply incredible. We have worked so hard to achieve such a result. Giancarlo delivered a truly remarkable race. We can all be very proud of the collective efforts.
