The Scuderia Ferrari and the Spanish bank Santander have scheduled a joint press conference this Thursday at 4:00 PM to likely announce a partnership. The respective presidents of the two parties, Luca di Montezemolo and Emilio Botin, will be present.
Santander bank had committed to McLaren for 3 years starting in 2007, which coincided with the arrival of the double world champion Fernando Alonso in Woking, who originally had a 3-year contract as well.
Despite Alonso’s departure at the end of the 2007 season, Santander honored its contract with McLaren until the end. The fact that Santander is now partnering with Ferrari suggests that Fernando Alonso’s arrival at the Scuderia is imminent.
The team, as tradition dictates, usually announces its driver lineup for the following season at Monza. However, the Scuderia has already stated that it will wait to know if Felipe Massa will indeed be fully fit. The Kimi Räikkönen issue, who no longer enjoys favor with Ferrari despite his victory at Spa-Francorchamps, also remains a priority.
