Force India confirmed all its potential for this weekend in qualifying. Both drivers qualified for Q3 and a Force India will start from the front row with Adrian Sutil for the second consecutive time after Spa and Giancarlo Fisichella’s pole.
Vitantonio Liuzzi is not to be outdone, he secured 7th place with a significant fuel load. He will have a first stint 7 or 8 laps longer than Hamilton, Sutil, and Räikkönen. The team will do its utmost to convert its good grid positions into a podium or better at the finish.
Adrian Sutil – 1st and 2nd:
« After yesterday’s and this morning’s results, we wanted to fight for pole position. We knew the car was capable of it, and that’s what we showed in today’s qualifying. We have a very good package, this circuit suits us very well as we have incredible top speed and also a good aerodynamic package, so the car’s efficiency is really good. I will be starting from the front row with Lewis [Hamilton] for the first time since we were in F3, and I’m really happy he’s next to me, he’s a good friend but we will fight hard for the victory. I have a lot of respect for him. The start will be very difficult against the KERS-equipped cars around me, but the race is long, I’ll do what I have to do to defend my position and have a good strategy. If the race pace is good, we can gain positions and even if they get ahead of me, I have a good car, fast on the straight, so it will be tight. »
Vitantonio Liuzzi – 7th and 7th:
« Two weeks ago, I didn’t expect to be on the starting grid, so this is a fantastic result – better than what we hoped for. The team has made great efforts and has greatly helped me achieve this goal. They never gave up, and we had a wonderful Friday and Saturday. The race will be tough physically and mentally, but I love the fight, and the team does too. We will give our all for tomorrow’s race. I’m looking forward to racing in front of my supporters.
Vijay Mallya – Team Director:
« I am absolutely delighted with the performance this weekend so far. We have been very strong all weekend and both drivers have been outstanding. Adrian [Sutil] has really shown great maturity to achieve his best starting position, while Tonio [Liuzzi] has been a revelation in his debut. Although qualifying is just one part of the equation, we feel quite optimistic for tomorrow’s race now. »
