Since Friday, the Red Bull drivers have consistently limited their testing, due to regulations that prohibit using more than 8 engines per season, with a penalty of being demoted 10 places for each new engine used. Indeed, young German Sebastian Vettel is at the limit, having already used 8 engines. The few laps completed by Vettel and Webber were not enough to place them at the top of the timing sheets. Mark Webber ranks 10th, while Vettel takes 9th place.
Unsatisfactory results in the battle for the Constructor and Driver titles against the Brawn GP drivers.
Sebastian Vettel – 18th and 9th:
« Not a very good session for us today, 9th and 10th are not the places we wanted. It’s a long race ahead of us tomorrow, anything can happen and our goal is to score points. »
Mark Webber – 17th and 10th :
« We will see the different strategies tomorrow. I am quite satisfied with the work we have done today, and the guys on the team did a good job. We are lacking a bit of pace. We will do our best to pick up some points – it is certainly possible. »
Christian Horner – Team Principal:
« An interesting qualifying session. Both drivers did an excellent job to reach Q3 on a challenging circuit. Q3 is a mix of cars with KERS and without, which will make for a very interesting first lap tomorrow. »
