McLaren keeps its contract with Santander!

The McLaren team has confirmed the renewal of the sponsorship contract with the Spanish bank Santander for 2010. This news follows the press conference organized between Santander and Ferrari a few days ago.

Santander has been a sponsor of McLaren since 2007, and their partnership will continue even though the bank has also signed a five-year contract with Ferrari starting in 2010.

“We are extremely pleased to extend our successful global partnership with Santander,” said McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh.

Being one of the world’s largest banks with a significant presence in Europe, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and the United States, as well as in other countries, Santander is a wholly suitable partner for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes and our triumphs on the global Formula 1 stage.

2009 marks the third season of Santander’s partnership with our sport and during this time, they have successfully sponsored three of the most prestigious and historic races: the British, German, and Italian Grand Prix. We are very proud of our relationship with Santander and to be part of their ever-expanding involvement in Formula 1.

Santander should therefore sponsor two major teams next year. But the contract with Ferrari did not specify any terms of positioning. The brand could therefore choose to focus on McLaren for the time being rather than Ferrari and prefer the Scuderia starting in 2010.
