The McLaren team is set to launch, this weekend in Singapore, the last major evolution of the season on their car, before focusing entirely on next year’s vehicle.
While several teams have already fully focused their efforts on the upcoming season, McLaren continues to develop its current car and will introduce a major upgrade at the next race.
The team director, Martin Whitmarsh, admitted to being confident that McLaren could still secure victories at the end of this season.
«Our race pace during the previous Grand Prix shows that we have suitably developed the MP4-24 in this highly competitive context, and we remain confident for the Singapore Grand Prix, » declared Whitmarsh. «For this race, we will present our last major update of the season’s package before dedicating all our efforts and resources to next year’s car. »
« Last year’s Grand Prix was a fantastic success and a testament to what can be achieved in Formula 1 when you have vision, commitment, and foresight. Everyone at Mercedes is eagerly anticipating these final four races, the climax of an exciting battle for the titles, rich in unexpected events. »
This new MP4 specification could thus help Hamilton achieve his goal at the end of the season: to win as many races as possible. He knows he is out of the championship race and wants to go all out.
I remember that my race last year in Singapore was primarily defensive. I was driving with an eye on the championship and wasn’t going to take too many risks. I was happy to finish on the podium. This year, it will be very different. I know I’m out of the title race and I want to attack these last four races, to get as many victories as I can.
