Nakajima needs to deliver results

Kazuki Nakajima admitted needing to deliver results in the last four races of the season. He needs to score his first points to have a chance of staying in Formula 1. His teammate, Nico Rosberg, by contrast, has already accumulated 30.5 points this season, placing him in sixth position in the championship.

The new GP2 champion, Nico Hülkenberg, as well as Rosberg and Kubica, are on the Grove team’s radar. The Japanese driver has therefore worked hard to approach as many sponsors as possible and raise funds to increase his chances of staying in F1. However, he is aware that this will probably not be enough to secure his place in the team.

“Nothing has been discussed at the moment, but I’m still pushing hard to get something,” Nakajima said. “I need to have better results. I’m convinced that my performances are better now but I haven’t scored the points, so it’s a bit of a problem. In the driver market, no one seems to have settled on anything yet. If a few people make a move, things will start to sort out after that.”

Nakajima remains an integral part of Toyota’s young driver development program. The driver also relies on Toyota for the choice of his future career plans. However, he admits that he would like the opportunity to stay for another year with Williams. “I hope so,” said the Japanese driver. “The decision is theirs, it’s difficult, and the results haven’t been good for me this season. But I’m sure I still have things to show them. This team has become like a home to me, I know all the guys in the team and I would like to stay.”

My performances are certainly better than last season in qualifying and in the race. But the performance of the car is better too. So, everything is in place, it’s just that, for one reason or another, the results haven’t come. It’s a bit frustrating sometimes.
