Ferrari director, Stefano Domenicali, has confidence in Giancarlo Fisichella and thinks that he will be significantly more competitive for the next race weekend in Singapore.

Starting a career at Ferrari during the Monza Grand Prix in front of the tifosi is no small feat. The Italian driver qualified in fourteenth place and climbed up to ninth position in the race, just a few seconds away from scoring the first point.

Although this performance was much better than those of his predecessor, Luca Badoer, in the car usually driven by Felipe Massa, he was a few tenths of a second per lap short of trying to compete with Kimi Räikkönen.

However, Stefano Domenicali believes it would be unfair to judge Giancarlo Fisichella based solely on this race. Especially since he lost his momentum by having an accident on Saturday morning during the last free practice session while he was acclimating to the Ferrari. “I think Giancarlo [Fisichella] did a good performance,” Domenicali stated. “He had a tough Saturday, and Friday was the first time he drove for us.”

The team director emphasized that Fisichella had been instructed to drive reasonably and accumulate kilometers for his first race. It was important for him to finish the race, and I hope the experience he gained will be of great help to him for the next race. I am convinced he will perform better in Singapore.

Stefano Domenicali also admitted that it was becoming clear that the Ferrari F60 was a difficult car to tame. «Our single-seater is not so easy to drive, that’s for sure, and we will have to consider this for the future.»
