Assessment: Ferrari in the Red in Singapore

The Scuderia Ferrari having stopped its development for the year 2009 is the immediate consequence of the race results. Singapore being the most demonstrative example. Kimi Räikkönen, in an unstable car, could do no better than 10th place, while Italian Giancarlo Fisichella remained at the back of the pack throughout the race to finish in 13th place.

Disappointing results, and above all, evidence of a rather glaring powerlessness. The Ferrari team is simply losing the 3rd place in the constructors’ standings to their rival, McLaren-Mercedes, which has just secured a new victory this Sunday. The season continues with bitterness for a team that, morally, is already thinking about 2010.

Kimi Räikkönen – 10th:

I couldn’t do better. The car was sliding everywhere and I had no grip. In the final part, with the soft tires, the situation improved, but it was a bit late. I don’t think the situation will be much different at Suzuka next week; it’s a very demanding track for the cars, and from an aerodynamic point of view, we are lacking. That said, I will do my best.

Giancarlo Fisichella – 13th:

«It was a very tough race mentally and physically. I was struggling a lot to keep the car on the track due to a lack of grip. With the soft tires, there was better handling and I managed to set some good lap times. The KERS helped me maintain my position more than overtake other cars. For Suzuka, it will be difficult to make predictions at this time.»

Stefano Domenicali – Team Principal:

Honestly, I don’t think we could have done much better. When you start so far back on a track like this, it’s difficult to climb up the rankings. Kimi and Giancarlo did their best trying to exploit the cars to the maximum. We have to accept the fact that other teams have made a step forward compared to us, which makes our situation very delicate. There are 3 races left, and we will approach them with maximum effort because we want to do everything possible to finish third in the constructors’ standings.
