The Japanese car manufacturer Honda insists that it does not regret withdrawing from Formula 1 at the end of last season. Yet, the Brawn team is on the verge of achieving a historic double in Formula 1 history, with its drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello.
The world of Formula 1 is currently headed to Japan, the location and circuit of the Honda group. The Brawn GP team could win the constructors’ and drivers’ titles on Honda’s home ground. A coincidence that doesn’t seem to sadden the president of the Japanese automotive brand, Takanobu Ito. According to the leader, Honda was not in a position to stay in F1 beyond 2008, so there are no regrets.
« We still manage our company as if we were walking on very thin ice, » he stated to Kyodo News this Monday. « The automotive industry still scares us. »
Takanobu Ito adds that he is happy with the impressive results achieved by Brawn this year, as well as the smooth transition to a new owner. « We have learned the difficulty of managing a team, » emphasizes Ito. « We need to use this lesson for the next time, if we ever return to Formula 1. »
