Rubens Barrichello makes no calculations

Brawn GP driver Rubens Barrichello has vowed to focus solely on winning in Brazil, rather than worrying about the various possible scenarios of the drivers’ championship. The Brazilian is 14 points behind his teammate Jenson Button with two races remaining. For his home Grand Prix, Barrichello is focused only on winning the race, stating that the title will come his way if he deserves it.

« I don’t calculate what I can or cannot do, it’s the fact of going motivated and winning the race that interests me. Then we’ll see where we are with Jenson [Button]. I hope I will win at home, that’s my goal. Of course, I would like to fight for the drivers’ championship until the end. And if I deserve to win the title, then it will be decided in Abu Dhabi. »

« The chances are very slim, » he clarifies. « But a little less than the 26-point deficit I had at one point. I have to go to Interlagos and win the race, that’s the goal. The rest, I don’t worry about. But as I said, if I deserve to win the championship, I will. I’m not going to be in the middle of the race and then think: “five plus five equals ten.” I have no intention of chasing points or this and that, my intention is to enjoy it as much as possible and win the race. »

Rubens Barrichello also paid tribute to his team, which is just half a point away from winning the Constructors’ Championship. The team has come a long way, and the fact that they have reached this level is already satisfying for him.

At the beginning of the year, I didn’t have a steering wheel and we didn’t have an engine, and today Brawn GP and Mercedes form a fantastic duo. With the team, we must all be very satisfied. I hope we will win the constructors’ title in Brazil.
