The driver Felipe Massa, who recently suggested he could make his return to Formula 1 in Abu Dhabi in a few weeks, admits he has abandoned the idea… The Brazilian who had an accident in Hungary is recovering with the help of the Scuderia’s simulator and will get behind the wheel of the F2007 next Monday, but he now thinks his chances of being back at the Yas Marina Circuit in three weeks are very slim.
“I hope I’ll be back soon, but I also know that the best thing is that I’ll be able to return at 100% of my capacity at the start of next season,” replied Felipe Massa to fans on Ferrari’s website.
« My dream would be to race in Abu Dhabi, but the possibility is really very, very low. » continues the Brazilian driver.
Even though he does not expect to be fit to drive before 2010, Felipe Massa is satisfied with what he has achieved in the simulator in recent days and is optimistic about his upcoming test in the F2007 – a test confirmed for next Monday in Maranello.
« I spent two very intense and interesting days in the simulator, I drove in Barcelona, then in Interlagos and in Abu Dhabi. Next Monday, if the weather is good, I should finally be behind the wheel of a Formula 1. I hope I can cover a lot of kilometers, not only in terms of performance but also in terms of consistency. I am confident and I think there won’t be any problems. It is true that in a Formula 1 car it vibrates a lot and there is a lot of physical stress, but I am used to it. » stated Felipe Massa.
The Brazilian initially made his comeback on the track in karting for a race in Brazil and said he had not noticed any adverse effects from his head injury during this event.
« It was great. Being on the track and feeling the edge of the curb again is an awesome feeling and it was like nothing had changed. » concluded the Scuderia driver.
