Sato would like to return to auto racing

Takuma Sato said he is determined about his chances of returning to racing for the 2010 season. He also wants to look at other options beyond Formula 1, in order to secure a place as a driver rather than lose a year without being behind the wheel.

The Japanese driver has not raced in a Grand Prix since his team Super Aguri withdrew shortly before the Turkish Grand Prix in 2008. Unfortunately, Sato was not selected for the Toro Rosso seat after testing last winter with Sébastien Buemi and Sébastien Bourdais.

Sato participated in several IndyCar races this year and is in the running to secure a seat with the Gil de Ferran team. However, Takuma Sato believes that American races are a very good second choice, after Formula 1 of course: “I was at the Indianapolis 500 and it’s a very good opportunity, but I always wanted to be at the highest level, it’s my goal,” Sato tells *Autosport*.

« For me, F1 is unfinished business, so I want to come back and have a competitive package, because now I have experience, I have speed, so I really hope I can do it, » says the Japanese. « This weekend at [Suzuka] has been painful for me. I have a lot of memories at Suzuka, and not racing is not an easy moment. »

Takuma Sato is simultaneously exploring the possibilities of returning to Formula 1, with new entrant teams as well as the current ones. As you know in Formula 1, it’s all business, and it’s quite difficult to predict what will happen.

Sato admits that if he can’t secure a seat in F1, he would look elsewhere rather than spend a year away from all motorsport. The USA is his second choice, however.
