Fernando Alonso asserts that Felipe Massa’s statements about the ‘crashgate’ will not affect relations with his future teammate at Ferrari. Massa stated on Wednesday that he was certain Alonso was aware of Renault and Piquet Jr’s tactics at last year’s Singapore Grand Prix, despite the fact that the FIA did not find the Spaniard guilty.
Asked by the media this Thursday in Interlagos, Alonso remained cool about the statements of his future teammate. “No, I don’t think so,” he simply said when journalists asked him if Massa’s comments were the beginnings of a psychological war between the two drivers.
“First of all, I don’t know what is true or not,” he explained. “Maybe it’s simply a misunderstanding with Felipe [Massa] or the media or I don’t know what else. So it’s difficult to know what is true and what isn’t. Shortly after, he stated something else (referring to the Ferrari statement). It’s really not important to me, and I’m not worried about it.”
During the World Council, it was clear in the report that I had nothing to do with the events of Singapore 2008, I was not involved in any way and knew nothing. There is no doubt about this point, added the Iberian. This will not affect me, nor our relations for that matter. I continue to think that it will be great at Ferrari, because the group is more important than the individuals. All the mechanics, the engineers, the people at the factory, the drivers, Stefano Domenicali, and President Montezemolo form a great family.
Fernando Alonso is therefore doing what it takes to not make matters worse, and he believes that his partnership with Felipe Massa will work at full capacity once he has acclimated to the ways of the Italian team. We will work for the same goal next year, namely, putting Ferrari back on top of Formula 1, and I think Felipe [Massa] and I can do it.
