Abu Dhabi GP: Red Bull Wants a Grand Finale

Red Bull has nothing left to play for this season and therefore comes to Abu Dhabi with a mind free of any sporting constraints. The team has had its best season and finishes as the runner-up in the constructors’ championship behind Brawn GP. However, this doesn’t mean Red Bull won’t aim for victory, especially since their car, the RB5, has been dominating this end of the season since the Singapore Grand Prix. But it won’t be easy on this circuit where KERS will likely have its say.

Mark Webber is confident of competing for victory this weekend but, from a sporting perspective, this victory would only be for honor. The Australian will finish fourth in the drivers’ championship no matter what, and thus last in the championship between the Brawn GP and Red Bull Racing drivers. His teammate, Sebastian Vettel, on the other hand, will fight with Rubens Barrichello for the runner-up position in the drivers’ championship.

The race will be broadcast on television in high definition and will take place at dusk, promising a magnificent visual spectacle. Let’s hope that the on-track action follows suit.

Mark Webber – Racing Driver:

As usual, the F1 season has been quite long, but it’s always good to have the chance to drive the car again, especially when you’re in our current form. It will be very interesting to go to this last race of the year, as no one has raced there before and it’s another street circuit, it seems fascinating. I think it will be a climax of the season and a fitting end to the championship. We are all ready to start next year now, as the championship titles are decided. I expect Red Bull Racing to be quite strong in Abu Dhabi. We’ve been quite strong since Singapore, so there’s no reason to think we can’t fight at the front, no doubt about that. As usual, qualifying will be very important on a street circuit, and then we’ll see how the race unfolds from there. We’re looking to finish on a good note for the team. I heard that the Yas Marina circuit has some nice undulations. It has some fast sections and a slow final section. I think it will be quite dusty, but we’ll clean it up quickly, it’s always nice to go on a new track.
