Bernie Ecclestone wants to expand the calendar to 20 races
Bernie Ecclestone believes that it is only a matter of time before the Formula One calendar is expanded to 20 Grand Prix.
While this year’s Championship included 17 races, the following year might well feature 19 races with Canada seeking a return and South Korea preparing for its debut.
But with more countries wanting a place on the calendar, Ecclestone thinks the list could be extended to include 20 race weekends in the near future.
« I always said that it’s possible and obviously now, there are more and more people buying into this idea, » he declared to the official Formula One website.
«No one needs private testing. I’ve always thought so. In my opinion, testing costs money while races bring it in. Alternatively, let them test on the Mondays after races when everyone is still on site, hotels are covered, and the enormous logistical effort is eliminated. »
