Peter Sauber, head of the eponymous team, declared that we would know his second driver for 2010 during the next week. It is via Twitter that the Swiss expressed himself on the subject: The second driver will be announced next week. The team is ready to work.
Sauber already announced a few days ago the arrival of former Toyota driver Kamui Kobayashi. To support him, it is Nick Heidfeld who seems to have the best chance. Peter Sauber regularly states that he wants to pair a young driver with a more experienced one.
The German Heidfeld was awaiting Schumacher’s decision for a possible move to Mercedes. If signed, he would remain within the Hinwil fold after 7 years spent with the team: three under the name Sauber from 2001 to 2003 and four under the name BMW.
As for Bertrand Baguette, the Formula Renault 3.5 champion, he now seems more associated with a role as a test and reserve driver. The Belgian recently tested the BMW Sauber in Valencia during the session reserved for young drivers.
