Jenson Button honored by the Queen of England

Jenson Button received the honorary title of MBE (Member of the British Empire) from the Queen following his victory in the 2009 Formula 1 World Championship.

The Briton won his first crown after six victories with the Brawn GP team before moving to McLaren in 2010, alongside Lewis Hamilton, who was also honored by the Queen at the end of 2008 following his title.

The former boss of Button, Ross Brawn, has also been honored and will be appointed OBE (Officer of the British Empire) in the New Year Honours list.

“This is truly the supreme glory to what was the most incredible year of my life,” declared an ecstatic Button. “Being recognized by the queen and by the British people is a tremendous honor.”

I’m incredibly proud to have joined the list of British world champions alongside Mike Hawthorn, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, John Surtees, Sir Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, and Lewis Hamilton.

«The last 12 months have taken me on such an exhilarating journey. I am beginning an exciting new chapter in my career. I am ready to defend my title and what Great Britain represents in the elite of sport. » concluded the 31st Formula 1 world champion.
