The Lotus team factory in Hingham was officially opened by former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir on Monday.
With the Malaysian government as a major supporter of the Lotus team’s Formula 1 project, Mahathir, still influential in Malaysia, was offered a tour of the factory and even slipped into the seat of the new T127.
Tony Fernandes, the team director, commented on his visit: «”It is very exciting for us and the team that Tun Dr. Mahathir was available to come to Norfolk to officially open the factory.”»
«He is the father of motor sports in Malaysia, the visionary who enabled the birth of the Sepang International Circuit and the Malaysian Grand Prix, and he gave us all the inspiration to reach for the skies and achieve our dreams, » continued a fulfilled Fernandes.
