Lopez in discussions with Campos

The manager of driver Jose Maria Lopez, Felipe McGough, stated that there were discussions between Campos director Jose Ramon Carabante and the main investor of USF1, Chad Hurley, to secure an agreement that will ensure Lopez’s presence in F1 next year.

Engaged with USF1 and with the support of the Argentine government, Lopez is being considered by the two new teams as the American team faces setbacks in its preparation.

« Chad Hurley and Jose Carabante discussed for several hours to find a solution regarding the budget problems both teams are facing. For us, this rapprochement is very important because it works to secure Lopez’s presence in competition this year. » continued the manager of the 26-year-old driver.

We did everything possible and made no missteps. The financial difficulties and the trust we had in the FIA’s decision made things complicated, and we must accept that the [USF1] cars will not be ready for Bahrain.

McGough ended on an optimistic note: «At the moment, things are in the hands of both teams. They have the final say. We hope we will reach a solution to return to Argentina with good news for Lopez.»

In parallel, the Locstein group, in discussions with USF1 for a sponsorship agreement, announced that it will not continue the relationship with the team due to its financial difficulties. The group specifies that it was not conceivable to sponsor the team if it did not participate in all the races of the season.
