Bernie Ecclestone plans 20 races in 2011

The Formula 1 financial chief, Bernie Ecclestone, admitted that the Indian Grand Prix will not replace another circuit on the 2010 calendar. Consequently, the 2011 calendar will feature twenty races.

The Grand Prix that will take place in New Delhi is already planned, and Ecclestone has clearly stated that all current locations will retain their places. When asked in Bahrain if there would be twenty races in the next Formula 1 World Championship, he responded: « Why, do you want more? It’s a round number and easy to remember… »

Ecclestone also added that he is keeping an eye on the opportunity to return to the United States – following the comments of Mario Andretti, who believes the ideal location for this return would be Indianapolis.

Questioned on whether Indianapolis was the best site for this, Ecclestone replied: « Yes, it is. There is just an issue with targeting the population since people there have a bad memory of Formula 1. The F1 system has never worked well in the USA, and we have major changes to make if we go back. Personally, I’d like to return there. »
