Peter Sauber is about to submit a request to change the name of his Formula 1 team. Despite the German manufacturer’s withdrawal from Formula 1, the Swiss retained the name “BMW Sauber F1 Team” for the start of the season.
Sauber did not request a name change during the pre-season, and name changes are not simple as they can cause the team to lose vital television rights for revenue. However, although no decision was made before the first race, the Swiss confirmed that now the season has started, his team will make a request – although the timing of this request has not yet been decided.
« We will submit a request for a chassis name change, but the timing has not yet been decided; it will happen during the season. »
The BMW-Sauber team is currently without a title sponsor for 2010, and Sauber has admitted that it is now unlikely to secure one until next year.
« We still have a car with no sponsors unfortunately, because it is impossible to find sponsors in January and February—especially big sponsors », he explained about the financial situation of the team.
« Today, we are looking for sponsors for 2011. I hope that we will find partners for this season. If we find a title sponsor for 2011 in the middle of the season, we may be able to have it for this season as well, » he concluded.
