Mosley attacks the Scuderia

Former FIA President Max Mosley commented on the “Ferrari Gate” using a firm and decisive tone. For him, the principle of banning team orders must be maintained, and he insists that Ferrari should have points deducted.

As the Scuderia prepares to have to justify its actions in the face of accusations before the FIA World Council for having ordered Felipe Massa to let Fernando Alonso pass, Mosley claims that he wants all of this to result in something concrete.

He thus declares:

Certainly most teams are in favor of ending this prohibition (instructions)… but if we want to meet the expectations of the public, then we must maintain the prohibition. In the event that a team were to engage in this practice, we should impose a very severe penalty.

Regarding the sentence, Mosley believes that new measures should be taken against Ferrari. For him, we should go beyond the 100,000$ fine imposed after the Hockenheim Grand Prix: “Both cars and both drivers should lose the points obtained at the German Grand Prix… I’m not going to make a recommendation, but based on the facts observed, there should be a sporting sanction and not just a financial one.”

Since this incident, many have been shocked to see Ferrari behave in this way.

Mosley knows that his words resonate with many F1 fans. His idea of sanctioning Ferrari beyond just financial matters makes sense.

However, the issue of the legal framework for race instructions must be raised, taking sanctions without clarifying the situation would amount to mere window dressing.

And if the solution was to address it through sportsmanship and legislation in order to determine the range of operation of the instructions and establish a strict rule governing sanctions.

When the stakes clash with the public’s desire for spectacle, we then touch the limits of regulations.
