Heidfeld must be in the top 3 to finish the season
The German took over from Robert Kubica, but he will need to be at the top of the standings to finish the season in case of the Polish driver's return.
As Motors Inside reported a few days earlier, Eric Boullier will have to make a decision upon Robert Kubica’s return to competition, whether to extend his replacement by Nick Heidfeld or not.
According to Vitaly Petrov’s manager, Oksana Kosachenko, who made an announcement in the Russian press, the German must be at the top of the standings if he wants to have a chance of keeping the seat at Lotus Renault GP. « I know that the terms of Nick Heidfeld’s contract should allow Robert Kubica to regain his seat when he is recovered. But Nick Heidfeld will keep his seat if he is in the top three of the drivers’ championship. »
All that remains is for the German to hope that the R31 will be competitive enough to allow him to drive the entire season and possibly secure his first Formula 1 victory.
