Massa thinks that Ferrari still has work to do
The Brazilian spoke about his team after the opening round in Melbourne.
Following the Australian Grand Prix, which marked the beginning of the 2011 World Championship and during which Felipe Massa finished 7th (scoring six points), the Sao Paulo native shared his thoughts on the form of Scuderia Ferrari: « If there is a lesson to be learned after the opening round, it is that we still have a lot of work to do. We really need to understand exactly what happened in Australia, to understand what we did and what the other teams did. »
It is true that, even though Fernando Alonso finished fourth in the opening race, the Italian team seemed to lag behind its direct competitors, namely the Red Bull and McLaren teams.
However, the Maranello team had shown good form during the winter tests, in a better position at any rate than the McLaren team. But the latter seems to have reversed the trend compared to the prancing horse, even though Felipe Massa wants to reassure: “Our car is better than what the Melbourne result might suggest. It’s difficult to explain exactly why we didn’t manage to do better.” The Brazilian then expressed confidence in the car’s potential in Malaysia, significantly better than in Melbourne.
The fact remains that even though it is still too early to draw conclusions, the result of the first Grand Prix of the 2011 season seems to confirm the trend of 2010, a season during which Felipe Massa, constantly overshadowed by his teammate Fernando Alonso, disappointed many observers, as well as his team.
