Gascoyne: Sepang will be better for Lotus

Mike Gascoyne thinks that his team will be in a better position in Malaysia, both because he has identified and addressed the problems from Melbourne and because he believes that the Sepang track will play to the strengths of the T128.

After a winter during which Lotus hoped to have made enough progress to join the fight with Force India and Toro Rosso in the midfield, the team was disappointed to find itself in the same position as in 2010 – behind the established teams but ahead of the Virgins – in Australia.

Gascoyne thinks that Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen showed better things during the Grand Prix and said that Lotus has rectified the problems that interrupted their race in Melbourne.

« We left Australia with mixed feelings regarding the race. Heikki’s pace in the early laps was a good step forward for us, and Jarno’s pace brought us closer to what we had shown during winter testing, but we had to struggle all weekend with the tires and other small issues that we have now resolved at the factory. »

The issue with tire temperature was cited by Lotus as the main problem in Australia. Gascoyne expects warmer weather in Malaysia and also hopes that the track will be better for the T128.

The conditions in Sepang should suit us better. I think the temperature on the track will help us show the true potential of the car, and since the layout is quite similar to that of Barcelona – a good mix of fast and slow curves – I think we will be able to achieve better performances with the car.
