Friday Report: Marussia Virgin: Difficult Day for the Team

After narrowly qualifying during the Australian Grand Prix qualifications, the Russian team aims to replicate its performance in Malaysia but encounters a few issues, especially for the Belgian team member who was unable to participate in the second practice session due to a mechanical failure.

« It’s difficult to judge everything that happened in the pit lane today, but I think it’s a reasonable day. It’s a shame we couldn’t have Jerôme’s car in the afternoon, as it would have helped us evaluate the tires. I’m quite happy with how the car is performing here, but it’s all about the tires, they’re good for a lap, then they drop off and it’s just a matter of holding them for as long as possible. The team did a good job. We went out a bit late during the second session, but overall everything went well. Let’s see what tomorrow brings us. »

Jérome d’Ambrosio 20th, then 24th (No laps)

The day started well and we were in a position to hit the track quickly. Unfortunately, we had a problem with the front right suspension at the end of the morning, and the damage it caused prevented me from taking part in the second session. It’s really hot here, but I’m getting used to the heat, and driving a Formula 1 car on this track is great. I really love driving here. We hope for a better day tomorrow.

We had a difficult start to our weekend in Sepang today. This morning, we experienced what we suspect to be a break in the front right suspension of Jerome’s car, which is clearly disappointing. The combination of the wheel battling with its attachment and going through the gravel caused significant damage to the car. And since this issue occurred just minutes before the end of free practice 1, we faced a huge challenge to get the car back in shape and allow Jerome to do at least an installation lap in the afternoon, but we fell short by a few minutes, making it a tough day for that part of the garage. Better things happened on Timo’s side, who seemed quite happy with the car. We have a lot of work to do tonight to make sure we’re in a better position tomorrow.
