Sauber impressed by Perez
The Mexican driver is in his first Formula 1 season.
Peter Sauber acknowledges that rookie driver Sergio Pérez has exceeded his expectations, and adds that accidents like the one he experienced in China are part of the learning process.
The Mexican had an excellent start to the Formula 1 season, with a seventh place in Australia, before his team was disqualified for a technical infringement.
However, Pérez experienced a difficult Chinese Grand Prix as he collided with Adrian Sutil after losing control of his car in turn number 1. Sauber downplayed the incident and said they were impressed with Pérez up to that point.
«We know that with Sergio we have a young and fast driver. Even though with a rookie we do not have the guarantee that he will be able to use all his potential under the pressure of a race weekend. »
I had high expectations with Sergio, and I must say that so far, he has even exceeded them. Not only does he have the skill to manage his tires extremely well, but he always drives very attentively.
«However, Sergio is also aware that he is at the beginning of a long learning process, a process in which there are accidents like the one in China. »
«I know that Sergio will maximize his enormous potential, step by step. The critical factor here is that he feels good with a team and environment that can help him develop the best possible way. »
