Saturday: Red Bull untouchable in qualifying
While everyone already saw Sebastian Vettel achieving his fifth consecutive pole this season, it was Mark Webber who managed the feat of putting a stop to the series achieved by the reigning world champion. Both drivers will start from the front row tomorrow.
Mark Webber – 1st
« It was a good session. It was clear in qualifying that we had a bit of margin and that we were going to fight among ourselves today. You can never underestimate these other guys. We passed Q1 on the first set of hard tires, which is good, and then in the crucial part of qualifying, in Q3, we just had to get the lap right. The lap was very good, and I was just praying that my number would be at the top when I crossed the line. It was a good lap, a good battle with Sebastian, and today was my day »
Sebastian Vettel – 2nd
« We can’t talk about disappointment; at the end of the day, we made a good step forward. Barcelona is the place where everyone brings new parts, and you’re here to see if everything works well. I think we made a step, like the others, but it seems we like this track and our cars are good here. Looking at qualifying, I wasn’t on pace right away, so it wasn’t a great lap, but I did it on hard tires. In Q2, I felt happier with the soft tires, but unfortunately, in the last part of qualifying, I lost a bit too much time and I’m not entirely satisfied with my lap. Mark did a good lap and a better job than me today. We’ll see tomorrow; it will be a long race, and we’ve saved a set of tires. I think we will be good with the KERS for the race, the guys are working very hard, and we’ve proven our car has become even faster, so congratulations to the guys handling the aero at the factory and everyone here. We are working very hard on the KERS. I didn’t have it in Q2 and Q3 today, but I’m sure we’ll have it tomorrow for the race. »

A great team performance, it’s great for Mark to get his first pole position of the year after a perfect lap in Q3. Sebastian did a phenomenal job to join Mark on the front row without the benefit of KERS. Both had a large margin over our opponents in qualifying, although we know it will be smaller tomorrow. It’s a fantastic team performance, we’re looking forward to tomorrow now.
Cyril Dumont
« Really a good result, our second complete front row of the season, which is really good for the whole team. I feel a bit sorry for Seb [Vettel] because we deprived him of some running this morning due to an electrical issue on the engine, fortunately we were able to fix it for qualifying. It was difficult for Sebastian to catch Mark today, especially with his KERS issue during qualifying. It’s a good result for this session, and hopefully we will turn it into good points tomorrow. »
