Lopez: “Kubica will not return this season”

Gérard Lopez, head of Genii Capital and owner of Lotus Renault GP, stated that Robert Kubica would not return to the starting grids this season.

The Polish driver was seriously injured while participating in a rally event last February. After spending many weeks in the hospital, Robert Kubica is currently continuing his rehabilitation. While the signs of recovery are encouraging, it seems certain that the Lotus Renault driver will not return mid-season.

« Maybe he will be able to drive during a practice session on a Friday, but it is certain that he will not return to racing this season, it’s not possible, » said Gérard Lopez on Spanish radio Onda Cero.

Moreover, it is also not 100% certain that Kubica will be able to return to the starting grids one day. « No one knows, neither him, nor the doctors, nor ourselves, » explains Lopez when asked how much the Pole’s injuries will affect his ability to drive a Formula One car in the future.
