Lewis Hamilton was already dissatisfied with his seventh place at the end of the qualifying session for the Monaco Grand Prix, and the stewards’ decision to cancel his best lap is unlikely to bring a smile back to his face.
Hamilton was a victim, despite himself, of Sergio Pérez’s accident which caused the red flag to be deployed. The McLaren driver had not yet set a lap time and therefore could not start in optimal conditions at the very end of the session.
The FIA stewards considered that the English driver had cut a chicane on his best lap and therefore decided to cancel that time. Lewis Hamilton will therefore start from the tenth position on the grid tomorrow.
