It’s not really a surprise, but the Sauber team has confirmed that Sergio Pérez will not start the Monaco Grand Prix tomorrow afternoon.
The Mexican driver, a victim of a dramatic crash during the qualifying session of the Grand Prix, will spend the night at the Princess Grace Hospital in Monte-Carlo. Sergio Pérez has no serious injuries but will not be able to race with his fellow drivers tomorrow.
« Of course, we are relieved that Sergio is not seriously injured. Until the accident, he was performing well in qualifying, even better than expected as he was doing better than his direct competitors, » says Peter Sauber.
« We are studying what happened. Nothing currently indicates, from the data we have, that there was a problem with the car. But we need to talk to Sergio to further investigate what happened, » explains James Key, the director of the Swiss team.
Kamui Kobayashi will therefore be the only representative of the Sauber team tomorrow in Monaco. The Japanese driver will start from the 13th position on the grid. Kobayashi scored points in the previous four races.
